BMW has revealed the fourth generation of the 1-Series, which comes with a refreshed look, modern technology, and a new nomenclature convention for petrol models.

The new 1-Series will be available with four engine options: two petrol and two diesel.

The 118d model offers 148 horsepower, while the 120d, with a 48-volt hybrid system, rises to 161 horsepower. Petrol models include a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with 168 horsepower in the 120 and a 2.0-liter turbo in the M135, producing 296 horsepower, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds.

In terms of design, the new 1-Series features a smaller grille and sleeker headlights, resulting in a smoother, rounded appearance. The interior also receives significant upgrades, with dual screens for BMW’s iDrive 9 infotainment system.

An interesting novelty is the change in nomenclature for petrol models, with BMW removing the “i” to differentiate from electric models. Thus, the M135i xDrive now simply becomes M135 xDrive, and the 120i becomes 120.

The new BMW 1-Series will be available for purchase in Europe starting October this year.
